If you've got a Google Business Profile and you're showing up in local searches, good. A lot of businesses haven't got that far. But if it's your only presence online, you're missing enquiries.

When someone finds you on Google Maps, they see your name, your rating, and a few photos. If they want more, they click through to your listing and see whatever Google has decided to show. You can't control what that looks like. You can't lay out your services the way you'd want to. You can't show proper before-and-after photos, add a booking form, or have enquiries come straight to your inbox.

A website gives you all of that.

Say two businesses in the same town both have a 4.8-star rating. The customer is going to check both of them out. The one with a clean, professional site that explains what they do and what to expect is going to win that enquiry more often. A rating tells people you're reliable. A website shows them what they're actually getting.

Your Business Profile gets you into the map results. But below the map there are organic search results too. "Plumber in Portsmouth", "hair salon near Chichester", "gym membership Southampton" -- those searches surface websites, not GBP listings. No website means you're not in the running for any of those.

Google can also change things without much warning. Reviews have vanished. Categories have shifted. Listings have been suspended for policy reasons the owner didn't even know about. Your Business Profile is something Google controls. A website is yours.

The two work well together. Your GBP drives local map traffic. Your website ranks for search terms, tells people what you do, and turns visits into actual enquiries. Relying on just one leaves obvious gaps.
